Marci Mitchell Whiteside is one of the most decorated softball players in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) history. She finished her pitching career at Carson-Newman College, located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, by receiving the award for 2002-03 SAC Female Athlete of the Year. This award is selected by the eight Athletic Directors of the league and is given to one male and one female student-athlete based on athletic performance and the impact of that performance on the SAC and NCAA Division II.
Whiteside holds the school record for strikeouts and no-hitters and won 98 games during her Lady Eagles career while helping to lead C-N to four SAC regular season titles and one appearance in the NCAA National tournament. Among her eight no-hitters, she had two perfect games, both during her sophomore year and in the same week. She was a four-time All-SAC selection as the recipient of the SAC Pitcher of the Week numerous times during her career. Whiteside is also a two-time recipient of the SAC President's Award, presented to one male and one female student-athlete who exemplifies the finest combined qualities of excellence in athletics, academics, and community leadership.
